Hotel Beore Sun Moon Lake is at No. 196, Zhongshan Road, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, in the Shuishe Pier area of Sun Moon Lake, about 0.3 km on foot from Shuishe Pier and 0.2 km from the lakeside bike path. The old inn that stood here had fallen into disrepair, so it was demolished and rebuilt, with work completed in 2023. Its signature arched windows incorporate handmade ceramic craftsmanship, and the building has won several international design awards.
This is a small hotel with fewer than ten rooms. It joined SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) in 2024 and can also be booked through Hilton Honors to earn points, but it is not a Hilton-operated hotel. Room size and lake views are not the selling points here; the focus is on location, design, food and service.
The restaurant Proq 196 is led by culinary director Elvis Chen (陳謙), serving creative Western cuisine with local Nantou ingredients, and in 2026 the hotel was selected as a MICHELIN Guide recommended hotel. The rooftop has a sky pool and the Sky Lounge, making it ideal for couples who want a slow stay and a proper dinner at Sun Moon Lake.

Proq means “earth” in the language of the Thao people, and 196 is the old building's street number. Culinary director Elvis Chen (陳謙), formerly executive chef at Sens & Bund in Shanghai and executive chef at the Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei and Taipei Marriott Hotel, cooks with local ingredients such as Puli water bamboo shoots, greens from Nanpingshan Farm (南平山農場), Nantou shiitake mushrooms and Sun Moon Lake black tea.
Dinner is mainly a single 18:00 sitting, from NT$1,980 per person plus service charge, with a discount for hotel guests; there is also lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. It is closed every Tuesday, with Mondays or Wednesdays also closed on rotation depending on the season, and non-guests can book too.

The Sky Lounge offers tea and snacks, nibbles, ice cream, beer and pour-over coffee, free for guests; it is open 15:30–22:00 on weekdays and 15:00–22:30 on weekends and holidays.
20:30–22:00 is happy hour, with beer served during that window only; selections depend on what is available on the day and are served while stocks last. There are also welcome refreshments on arrival, served 14:00–17:00.

With a private charter
Sun Moon Lake's sights are spread along the lakeside road, so a private charter from HSR Taichung Station can link the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, the ropeway station, Wenwu Temple and Xiangshan Visitor Center before finishing at Shuishe to check in. Breakfast at the hotel is a set brunch in two sittings at 09:00 or 10:00, so if you want an early start to Cingjing or Alishan the next day, plan your breakfast in advance; dinner has only one 18:00 sitting, so time your day to be back for it. The hotel has only a few parking spaces, which must be reserved when booking and are meant for self-driving guests, so do not assume charter vehicles can park or wait on site; simply handle pick-ups and drop-offs at the entrance.
